On Tuesday, July 10th, Goldleaf Surety’s Jan Sachariason participated in Better Together Montevideo. This event was put together by local churches from the area to help end hunger in Montevideo and surrounding communities.
Better Together is a locally organized service project for the purpose of cross-cultural community building. The event provides participants with the opportunity to get to know fellow community members while working alongside them for a good cause. It is an event in which community members package meals with their neighbors for their neighbors. Volunteers came together to package 127,000 meals for local distribution. The food packaged included mac and cheese, beans and rice, and apple cinnamon oatmeal.
Participants signed up for 2 ½ hour packaging shifts which included a 30-minute cross-cultural orientation. The meals packaged go toward local food shelves, area school backpack programs, disabled veterans, and others in need.
