Businesses that contract to provide plumbing services in Minnesota must have a plumbing contractor license. In addition, licensed plumbing contractors must also carry a surety bond. Plumbing contractors who install building water and sewer piping but do not work on subsurface sewage treatment systems (SSTS) are required to maintain a Minnesota Pipe Layers Bond with the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry. As with all license bonds, this bond provides indemnification for loss or damage resulting from the license holder’s compliance with a law or regulations.
